Youth Olympic Games 2010
Singapore won the bid in February 2008 to host the inaugural Youth Olympic Games 2010. The games will be held from 14-26 August at numerous venues island-wide. A total of 18 venues will be used for competition. Singapore will play host to over 5000 athletes and officials from 205 National Olympic Committees. These participants will be housed at the Youth Olympic Village set amidst the beautiful Nanyang Technological University Campus. Accommodation will be comfortable though not luxurious but most importantly, safe and conducive for adequate preparation during the games.
The YOG 2010 is expected to draw in an estimated 500 000 spectators. Being a small island nation, Singapore will thus have to fully utilise all available sporting venues, most of which are located in the heartlands or neighbourhoods.
