Marina Bay Sands Celebrates Its Grand Opening In Style

The Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort held its Grand Opening on 23 June in spectacular style. There was a climbing competition, skydiving, numerous headline acts and even a black-tie dinner party with a concert for invited guests. A total of 2500 guests were invited, as well as 1100 media members from 17 countries. The gala concert in the evening also featured international names such as Diana Ross and Kelly Rowland. Destiny Child's Rowland, a Grammy award-winning artiste, performed some of the group's greatest hits, much to the delight of many adoring fans at the concert. 

As of today, the majority of MBS will be open, though it will the completion of construction works is slated to be by the first half of 2011. At present, all hotel rooms, the casino, convention centres, shops, restaurants and the SkyPark are open to the public. All restaurants, retail outlets and the Museum should open by the end of 2010. However, the floating pavilions, housing 2 nightclubs and the theatres will only open next year.  

MBS expects to attract up to 150 000 visitors daily in the future. Visitor levels for this month topped 500 000, with the casino bringing in 25 000 visitors daily. This integrated resort will certainly spice up the city's nightlife and entertainment scene, not least because MBS boasts architectural marvels such as the Helix Bridge and the Sands SkyPark.
