Sri Mariamman Temple Sports a New Look

Sri Mariamman Temple in Chinatown is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple. On 11 April 2010, there will be a grand opening ceremony to unveil the temple's new look after renovations on the temple columns, murals and inner sanctums. This latest round of renovations saw some 20 artists from India flown in by the redevelopment committee to work on the 184-year temple.

For the opening ceremony, surrounding streets and even shops will be closed for consecration of the temple. This is to ensure sufficient space for the thousands of devotees, celebrants and those wanting to witness this monumental milestone in the temple's history.
