Jurong Bird Park in Singapore
The Jurong Bird Park is the largest of its kind in the world (largest bird population of 8000 birds representing 600 species). It is a world-famous zoo for many specimens of bird-life from all over the world. The various exhibits and shows are constantly improved to showcase new species as well as to educate visitors on the interconnection of birds, nature and men.
The park’s latest exhibit is themed “African Wetlands”, which is a new eco-system display that aims to showcase how birds, nature and men can co-exist in our world. Other exhibits in the park allow visitors to feed birds, view pelicans fishing underwater (the world’s 1st underwater viewing gallery) and walk through a nocturnal birdhouse fitted with reverse lighting (simulating night conditions during the day and vice versa). There are bird shows involving mimicking cockatoos and various birds of prey being put through simulated hunts. The latest show is the Birds ‘n’ Buddies comedy, featuring lots of audience interaction and bird antics!
It is well worth the while to spend some time touring the park in the panorail that runs through it for it gives a great overview and takes you up close to the birds. You’ll get to enjoy live commentary onboard as well. You can also opt for a Bird’s Eye Tour if travelling in a small group, where besides having your own personal guide, you’ll get fantastic photo and feeding opportunities!
Spending a day at the bird park is thoroughly enjoyable. Be it touring the park on the panorail, visiting the shows and exhibits or dining with birds for breakfast, there is always something to do! It is recommended that you spend at least half a day in the park, though for a more complete experience, you’ll need a full day.
