Number of Rooms: 233
The 233-room Goodwood Park Hotel is situated within the Orchard shopping district. Although some websites will tell you that it is located near Orchard MRT station, or 5 minutes by foot, that is actually deceptive. By the time one walks from Orchard station through the crowds in the underpass, past the shopping centres,to Goodwood Park Hotel, it is more of 15 minutes, which is not very near an MRT station as far as hotels in the city go.
The distinguishing point of Goodwood Park Hotel is its colonial-style building, which gives an alluring sense of old-world charm. It is one of the few hotels in Singapore of only 2 storeys. Built in 1900, Goodwood Park Hotel first started off as the Teutonia Club, a venue for high-society Germans. It was turned into a hotel in 1929, always having a reputation for grandeur and attracting the rich and famous. The Tower Block of the Goodwood Park Hotel was gazetted as a national monument on 23 March 1989.
The rooms are on the less classy side of 5-star (does not provide large flatscreen tv), though they do come with free tea/coffee-making facility. There are shopping and dining options aplenty in the shopping district of Orchard, and even cheap food(less than $5) can be found at places like Far East Plaza. There is a fitness centre, a swimming pool and places for meetings.
Overall, do stay at Goodwood Park Hotel if you would like an old-world, laid-back kind of style.
