MacRitchie Reservoir

Getting there, what to see, food

MacRitchie reservoir, together with Lower Pierce, Upper Pierce and Upper Seletar reservoirs surround nature reserves. They double up as water catchment areas, with the forests surrounding these reservoirs protected from agricultural activity so as to preserve the quality of water.

The reservoir has always been a popular spot for people enjoying morning and evening strolls or runs, water sports such as kayaking as well as other nature and exercise enthusiasts. The newly built HSBC Tree-top walk is also within the reservoir park. From the high vantage point on the tree-top walk, you will be able to appreciate the beauty of the untouched forest canopy. Adventurers can look to embark on the various hiking trails that take you through the forest around the Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

Hiking Trails

These range from easy 1.5 hour walks to more gruelling 5 hour ones. Choose from 6 different routes that range from 3km to 11.5km. Check out the trail routes at the National Parks website.

Be sure to dress appropriately with comfortable hiking or walking shoes. In addition, you’ll want to bring along sufficient water, especially in Singapore’s hot and humid climate. To be on the safe side, you’ll want to have an umbrella or raincoat with you.

Every 2nd Saturday of the month at 9am, there is a free guided walk conducted at MacRitchie Reservoir. To reserve a spot, call 6554 5127 (Singapore’s country code is +65).
