The Singapore Marina Bay circuit is the venue for the Formula One Season’s first and only night race. Since 2008, Singapore has seen lots of successfully organized races. Although it emerged in 2009 that the race in 2008 had suffered from match-fixing (Nelson Piquet Jr was told to crash his car on purpose), this did not affect the subsequent race in 2009, which saw fewer accidents and was free of controversy. Also, the narrow street circuit was tweaked to encourage overtaking and prevent accidents of the previous year from happening. The 2008 race was won by Fernando Alonso, then at Renault. Lewis Hamilton took the chequered flag in 2009 for team McLaren-Mercedes. inaugural race 2008 was a sell-out, with all 110 000 tickets sold by day.
