War Memorial Park in Singapore
The 1.4-hectare War Memorial Park is located within the Civic District of the city. Known affectionately as the “chopsticks”, the memorial is 61 meters high, sporting 4 columns unified at the base. This is symbolic of the 4 main races living in unity in Singapore, with the memorial dedicated people of all races that endured sacrifice and were victims of the Second World War.
The park has open lawn areas and tree-lined walkways. In addition, this memorial is lighted up daily after 7pm. Every year on February 15th (the infamous date Singapore fell to the Japanese), public memorial services are held to commemorate the war dead.
